Freedom is an idea about letting go of everything and doing what you want. Freedom is used in a variety of forms. Freedom is an idea that makes people smile and lets them be independent. In the books, The Count of Monte Cristo and Blessings they touch on an idea of freedom in different ways.
In the novel The Count of Monte Cristo Edmond Dantes, the main character, gets hope from a small idea of freedom or escape. “Although weakened, the young man’s brain instantly responded to the idea that haunts all prisoners, Liberty! It seemed that heaven had at length taken pity on him.” This quote shows that all prisoners favor the idea of freedom. The noises through the wall, he hears gives him hope that there is a possible chance of escape. At one point he is afraid that what he is hearing is not a prisoner trying to escape. “Suddenly another idea took possession of his mind so used to misfortune, that is scarcely capable of hope. The idea that the noise was made by workmen the governor had ordered the neighboring dungeon.” This illustrates that the idea of freedom is a very powerful thought. It is so powerful if you get the slightest chance of doubt you will figure out any way to believe that doubt is not true. In conclusion the thought of freedom or escape is so powerful it will haunt your brain.
In the short script, Blessings, the idea that is exposed is mostly escape. The two characters Rene and Jesse are out in the cliff side, staring at an amazing view. As they are watching the beautiful view they are expressing themselves and what they do. “ Man, I’ve got to bring my paints up here.” “Like to cook. Like poems. Ever written a poem” This shows the idea of escape because they are telling each other what they like to do. It shows that they'd say what they want to say without having someones opinion on it. Another part of escape is just appreciating what is around you and admiring the geography. Escape doesn’t always mean one thing. It has many meanings. “ You see the blue-gray rock. Them straight up the trail carpeted with “golden orange-brown needles, sniffing the air cool watch the trees for the bright, then TAH-DAH!!” They are observing what they are seeing and noticing the landmarks around them. In conclusion, escape has many different meanings and the feeling of escape is always good no matter what.
Freedom can change the way you think. Escape can make you see things differently. What if you had the chance to do anything you want without being told. Imagine if you had no freedom how do you think that would feel. In the books, The Count of Monte Cristo and Blessings they both touch on an idea of freedom in different ways. Freedom and escape will make you appreciate all the things around you and what you have.
