Literary Analysis

Freedom is the escape from reality and others control. Freedom can drive many people in different ways. It shows how freedom is one thing that, if achieved it can bring happiness and peace. In The Count of Monte Cristo and Blessings explore the theme of freedom in different ways.

First, In The Count Of Monte Cristo the main character Edmond Dantes hears noises which make him urge for freedom and makes him learn that freedom is what he needs. At the end of paragraph 2 it said "Edmond raised his head and listened. It was a continual scratching, as if made by a huge claw, a powerful tooth, or some iron instrument attacking the stones." This is significant because it is starting Edmond to believe that he might be able to escape. It really gives him a thought that freedom is coming. Another quote from the story that is significant is in paragraph 17 which is "It is a prisoner said Edmond joyfully." This shows that Edmonds strive for freedom was coming and he could be free and happy. This story really shows how freedom can drive a person. Another story that has freedom is in Blessings but it comes in a different way.

Second, In Blessings the two main characters Rene and Jesse both climb up a mountain to have fun. In the story when they make it up the mountain they feel and they see the view they get an amazing sense of freedom. Then they talk to each other about what they like. A quote from Blessings is in line 26 which is “Man I’ve got to bring my paints up here.” This explains how Rene expresses freedom by painting. It makes her, feel free and happy. Another quote that demonstrates freedom is “Rene, first, would you read this? (JESSE takes a piece of paper out of his shirt pocket. He hands it to RENE) It’s a poem. real short. I wrote it about this place. This illustrates how Jesse expresses his freedom which is through poems. This story really demonstrates how freedom can be shown through many different ways. In both stories freedom is described, but in different ways.

Freedom can be found in many ways, all you have to do is find.
