Freedom is a way to be able to leave the pains of the way you live now and start over with a fresh page in life. The count of monte cristo and blessings explore the theme of freedom in different ways. In Count of Monte Cristo freedom for Edmond is light finding a ray of light in the darkest of times. In Blessings freedom is something you must work for and it will not be given to you.
In the Count of monte cristo there is a hope of freedom freedom because of the scratching noise coming from the wall. First at the beginning of the passage it says “Although weakened the young mans brain instantly responded to the idea that haunts all prisoners liberty...” In this little part it means that the thought of freedom can strengthen even the weakest of brains. Second in the passage it said “ Full of hope, Edmond swallowed a few mouth fulls of bread and water...” In that section he waited all day to hear that sound and in the mean time he was waiting with hope.

You need to explain everything a little bit more. Like when you said "In this part Rene and Jessie are talking and wishing that things were different and to be free. "You can say "Rene and Jesse were talking about how their lives are very rough. They need an escape to be able feel free. Painting or Art is a way of escape for them."
